MILAN, Italy, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- More than 35 years have passed since Paolo Panerai, chief-editor and CEO of Italian media group Class Editori, had a conversation with late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping Nike Air Max 2017 Sale Clearance , and his affection for China today is stronger than ever.

"A new Silk Road was born in China," Panerai told Xinhua in a recent interview presenting his book Il nuovo milione (The new million), whose title cross-refers to Venetian traveler Marco Polo's travel journal The million, commonly called The travels of Marco Polo.

Panerai recalled he had the precious opportunity to meet Deng in 1978, when an Italian delegation led by then Italian foreign trade minister Rinaldo Ossola provided the first credit line from the Western world to the new China that Deng was forging through historic reforms.

Panerai wrote The new million - published both in Italian and Chinese - to celebrate the friendship between the two countries Nike Air Max 95 Sale Clearance , which has deepened over the years and was further reinforced by the visit of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to Italy on the occasion of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) held in Milan last month.

"China is an extraordinary country, especially for those like me who had the chance to visit it in 1978 and thus experience its big transformations," Panerai highlighted.

The Class Editori's head described to Xinhua the unique memories he treasures in his mind.

"I was staying at the Peace Hotel in Shanghai, when I woke up in the morning with the impression that the Huangpu River had overflown its banks. I looked out the window and saw thousands of bicycles which sounded like water all together," he recalled.

"That China does not exist anymore. It was a China with many romantic aspects Nike Air Max 90 Sale Clearance , but also with the extraordinary main objective to bring wellness to millions of people, which is what I learnt from my conversation with Deng," he explained.

Panerai said there are still some prejudices against China in the Western world, especially in certain entrepreneurial sectors, but "those who imagine they can halt China's development are trying to stop the wind with a finger."

"In fact I told my grandchildren that they cannot exclude China from their life. It is time to realize that China can be a great opportunity for everybody Nike Air Max Sale Clearance ," he stressed.

PARIS, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- In the year 2016, France saw a succession of unexpected political events, with some even belittling all polls and political analysis.

These include the triumph of Francois Fillon at the right-wing party primary, the elimination of candidacy for French President Francois Hollande and former President Nicolas Sarkozy for the 2017 presidential election.

The first big surprise was Fillon won the primary for the Elysee Palace. He was prime minister when Sarkozy held the presidency.

Three days before the first round of the primary, a poll credited Fillon with 22 percent of voting intentions, compared with 29 percent for Sarkozy and 36 percent for Alain Juppe.

However, Fillon won the first round with 44.2 percent of the vote, ahead of Juppe's 28.5 percent and Sarkozy's 20.6 percent.

Coming to the second round, Fillon took lead and became the candidate of the right-wing parties in the upcoming presidential race.

The new candidate dropped hints to sneer at the polls and analysis which had underestimated him since the every beginning.

"Hope has manifested itself strongly throughout France, belying all predictions. This hope comes from free, thoughtful people, people who demand to be be listened and trusted," said Fillon during his speech after the victory.

The other major unforeseen event was the elimination of Sarkozy in the first round of the conservative primary.

Even if the polls predicted Juppe slightly ahead, nothing foreshadowed Sarkozy's exit. Given his political experiences, Sarkozy had every chance to win the second round, against Juppe who was judged as being too close to "center left."

However, voters decided otherwise, leading to the withdrawal of the former head of state from the political arena.

"It is now time for me to live a life with more private passion and less public passion," declared Sarkozy later.

The renunciation of Hollande in the upcoming presidential election was also surprising.
